Sparklers? yes, Sparklers! I love these simple, shiny little beads so i’ve decided to continue making them hence they definitely need a name. I think i’ve now tried every colour of transparent glass in my studio, refining the mix to get the finishing, colours and shapes i’d like (plus discovered some new ones!). I’m now very, very happy with these European bracelet-style glass [...]
I’ve been playing in the studio…

…making twisties. I tried a new way of making them: painting the colours right on the end of the rod rather than winding the glass on the end of the mandrel. Obviously my technique needs some work. It was hard to control the molten glass plus guesstimate how much mass i needed to pull a decent length [...]
Beap poop sucks…

You know how there’s one chore that always just truly SUCKS? Could be anything, it’s just one of those necessary things that have to be done but yet (if you’re like me) you hate to do it so much you delay and delay (and DELAY!) and don’t get to it until it absolutely cannot be left [...]

After almost four months away from the torch, i’m back! And this time it was easy to get right into the groove… I think it did me good to not play with glass for a while. My vision is clearer now and i feel like i’m heading into new, complex and more interesting directions. Good thing too [...]

Soooo, how do you DO that??? This is the question I’m most frequently asked when i mention i make glass beads (after of course, we get past that initial stage of incomprehension where i explain that yes, a person can make their own glass beads if they so choose, and no, it’s not really like glassblowing). SO! [...]

I’m back on the Teenager’s computer again as the kitten Busta finally finished chewing through my laptop’s power cable. Now doesn’t having a cat usually mean no pets chewing random valuables around the house??? i might as well have a dog. Soooo… until i decide whether to replace the power cable and harddrive on my laptop [...]

Here are some of the things i’ve worked on over the last couple months: Verdigris Swirl: This was a custom order for a green pendant. Took me forever because i had the hardest time developing a great design in green (other than lime and olive, it’s not one of my fave colours). I finally won my [...]
A recent custom order…

Tusk: this order was fun - the client wanted a different and personal take on the (currently very trendy) ivory tusk/bone/horn pendant thing. It’s about 2″ long. Took me a few rather comical tries before i finally figured out how to make a tusk in glass… Quite impressed with myself actually as this is not only my first tusk but [...]
